The objective of this project was to deliver three climate resilience workshops in partnership with the Ngarrindjeri Aboriginal Corporation and three workshops in agricultural regions of South Australia. This project built on a previous project by SARDI Climate Applications and the SA Drought Hub which developed and delivered climate resilience workshops in the SA Drought Hub Nodes of Minnipa, Port Augusta (SA Pastoral Districts), Orroroo, Loxton, Struan and Roseworthy. The previous six workshops were organised by the SA Drought Hub coordinators in partnership with farming systems groups and Landscape Boards. This new project expanded the partnerships to include the Ngarrindjeri Aboriginal Corporation, GRDC RiskWi$e through Mallee Sustainable Farming to run SA Drought Hub components of pre-season workshops in Waikerie, Coomandook and Bowhill. We also partnered with the Yankalilla Council for their Fleurieu Ag Fest and the Australian Wine Research Institute to contribute a SA Drought Hub component to a wine grape workshop on the Limestone Coast.
The agenda for these workshops differed depending on the request from the partner organisation. A common theme was climate resilience whether it be First Nations People with the Ngarrindjeri Aboriginal Corporation, low and medium rainfall farming with Mallee Sustainable Farming, the next generation of agriculturists and beef producers on the Fleurieu Peninsula or premium wine grape production on the Limestone Coast.
At all workshops we were able to use local climate data and to demonstrate My Climate View which was developed as part of the Future Drought Fund.
