This project supports Hart Field-Site’s regional internship program in applied RD&E, relevant to the needs of the southern grains industry with a strong focus on drought resilience. The intern works directly with the SA Drought Hub through field-based work or extension activities.
Key achievements and results:
Kaidy Morgan – 2023 Regional Intern
Kaidy grew up on a mixed cropping and livestock farm on the Eyre Peninsula, where she lived with her parents and younger brother. She has a particular interest in regenerative agriculture, including cover cropping and no-till farming strategies.
Kaidy has a Bachelor of Agricultural Science from the University of Adelaide and in 2022 completed her Honours at CSIRO. She is passionate about soil care strategies and promoting soil health with a ‘bottom-up’ perspective.
Working alongside Hart research and extension manager Rebekah Allen, Kaidy developed her knowledge of nutrient deficiencies in crops as well as pest and disease management strategies.
She will be staying on at Hart as Technical Officer after completing her internship.
One of Kaidy’s projects as an intern was to create, voice and produce the animated video series Harriet’s Hart Headlines. The series takes viewers behind the scenes at Hart with a focus on some of Kaidy’s key project work. Watch the four episodes of Harriet’s Hart Headlines.
Myfanwy Purslow – 2024 Regional Intern
Myfanwy ‘Miffy’ Purslow will complete her degree in agricultural science at the end of November 2024. She is excited about the opportunity, provided by her internship, to work with a variety of crops across a broad range of research areas as part of the Hart team.
Miffy is keen to develop her skills in research agronomy and plant and soil science, and to pair in-field observations with data and analysis to make a meaningful contribution to agriculture. She’s also looking forward to collaborating with farmers and other industry professionals.
