Leveraging ‘Kick off ya Boots’ to create greater resilience amongst the wider Ag community
Lead organisation: University of South Australia
Hub members and partners involved: Gladigau Enterprises
Project Category: Hub Projects
Project summary:

The “Kick off ya Boots” (KOYB) dinner theatre production is widely acknowledged as being a very successful mental health and wellbeing initiative. It opens the door to normalising discussions around drought, finances, succession and farming family communications. This in
term leads to better decision making on farm, and developing long term farm resilience through stronger family businesses.
The objective of this proposal is to leverage ‘Kick off ya Boots’ to create greater resilience amongst the wider Ag community.

  1. Access to drought information and technical support
  2. Community resilience and wellbeing through support, collaboration, and access to technologies

In addition, it aligns with the SA Drought Hub’s key priorities that have been developed through community consultation (namely (1) community resilience and wellbeing and (2) farm planning and decision making).
Whilst bringing the mental health message to attendees at the Loxton KOYB live performance, the proposal to take KOYBs on the road through a statewide KOYB video dinner campaign would have an anticipated reach of 600 across the proposed six sites of Barossa, Cummins,

Kimba, Loxton, Naracoorte and Orroroo. As this is a pilot, we are keen to discuss with SA Drought Hub the number of events they would like to see run and if there are any locations in particular SA Drought Hub would like a KOYB video dinner to be held. The proposed project
would be learning for us as this is a pilot program whilst we could hold more than 6 KOYB video dinners, we propose to run an initial six dinners, evaluate them and then consider more events statewide with a view to a for possible expansion nationally.
