Exploring the use of strip and disc systems on Eyre Peninsula to improve drought resilience

SA Drought Hub

This forum will explore the potential risks and benefits of adopting strip and disc farming systems to improve drought resilience. Guest speakers Kelvin Tiller (farmer, Pinery), Michael Brougham (agronomist, Elders) and Paul Bammann (farmer, Eyre Peninsula) will share their experiences, and explore the risks and opportunities of the implementation of strip and disc systems, considering:

  • Disc seeding (set up, depth and force)
  • Row spacing,
  • Herbicide control options
  • Pest management
  • Stripper front set up (height, weed seed control and speed)
  • How strip and disc may improve drought resilience.

Implementing a strip and disc system considering grower and agronomists experiences (panel session inc. Q&A) – Kelvin Tiller, Michael Brougham and Paul Bammann

  • Identify areas of future investment in RD&E activities for strip and disc farming systems on upper Eyre Peninsula, to improve drought resilience for EP farmers – Belinda Cay, AgCommunicators
  • Identify the risks and opportunities (including cost benefit) of using strip and disc systems – Emily Chambers, Pinion Advisory
