Project summary: 

The Drought and Climate Resilient Sheep Farms and Landscapes project (‘Climate Resilient Sheep Systems’) brings together researchers, farmers and industry partners to develop practical solutions to improve long-term resilience and sustainability of both sheep and pasture systems during drought conditions.

The project aims to support sheep producers across southern Australia to build drought and climate resilience through improved sheep genetics, resilient feedbase systems and farmer-led research.

Improved sheep genetics will be studied by teams from Adelaide University and Murdoch University, along with fodder systems research at the Adelaide University Roseworthy campus. Meanwhile, 26 implementation and validation trials will be conducted on operating farms across New South Wales (8 sites), South Australia (8 sites) and Western Australia (10 sites), in collaboration with the national partners, regional drought hubs and local farming systems groups.

The project will run from June 2025 to October 2030.
