Over the past three years, BIGG has delivered drought resilience projects in the Barossa and surrounding areas on water innovations, multi species pastures and ewe containment areas. These measures have all created awareness and provided opportunities for producers to learn, however a barrier to adoption is the perceived cost (BIGG conference survey of producers= 59%) of the new idea.
This project will model the return on investment, using figures already obtained through the projects, to determine the long-term cost to the farming business. This will help to break down the cost barrier and encourage further adoption of the drought resilience measures of water innovation technology, implementing mixed species pastures and containment ewe sites. The project will provide a value add of information already produced by the Drought Hub’s projects.
This information will be communicated via the established BIGG network via e-news, a series of short videos which will be developed and shown at the BIGG Conference in Feb 2025 and via social media. Containment Ewe information will also be shared via the Drought Hub statewide containment ewe project.
