Applications now open for the 2027 Hart Research Internship

Applications are now open for the 2027 Hart Research Internship, a one-year opportunity delivered through the SA Drought Hub Regional Internship Program co-funded by South Australian Grain Industry Trust (SAGIT), in partnership with Hart Field-Site Group and South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI).

Based in the beautiful Clare Valley, the internship provides graduates with hands-on experience in applied grains research and extension, working alongside leading researchers, consultants, growers and industry professionals.

Throughout the 12-month internship, the successful applicant will contribute to independent research across a range of priority areas, including drought resilience, weed management, soil fertility and crop nutrition, crop entomology, agronomy and seeding systems. Research opportunities can be tailored to suit the intern’s interests.

Working closely with Hart’s Research Lead, the intern will develop practical skills in trial design and management, crop assessments, data analysis and research communication. They’ll also assist with field days, workshops and other extension activities, gaining valuable experience engaging directly with growers and advisors.

The role offers more than technical experience. Interns become part of Hart’s team from day one, building industry networks through collaboration with SARDI researchers, participation in SA Drought Hub initiatives and attendance at industry events across South Australia.

Since 2016, Hart’s Regional Internship in Applied Grains Research has helped develop the next generation of agricultural professionals by providing a pathway into careers in research and extension while strengthening regional research capacity.
