The SA Drought Hub is proud to support the Barossa Improved Grazing Group (BIGG) in delivering a new initiative focused on water security.
The new Lined Catchment Demonstration Project will demonstrate how lined catchments can effectively harvest rainfall and enhance on-farm water reliability.
The project will involve the construction of a 1-hectare poly-lined catchment at a Flaxman Valley property, featuring site selection, earthworks, liner installation, and fencing to exclude stock and wildlife. The liner ensures even minor rainfall events contribute to dam water levels by preventing soakage loss.
To share findings across the region, the project includes a comprehensive communications package, including field walks, factsheets, a construction video, and media outreach.
BIGG will deliver the project in collaboration with the South Australian Research and Development Institute, the research and development arm of Primary Inudstries and Regions SA and will be led by PIRSA Soils Team Leader, Brian Hughes.
This program/project is supported by the South Australian Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub, through funding from the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund and the Northern and Yorke Landscape Board.
