The SA Drought Hub is pleased to be sponsoring the SARDI Minnipa Agricultural Centre (MAC) Annual Field Day, to be held on Wednesday, 9 September 2026.
The annual event brings together Eyre Peninsula growers, advisers, researchers and industry representatives to explore the latest locally relevant research and discuss how findings can be applied to improve farming system productivity, profitability and resilience.
SA Drought Hub Knowledge Broker Tony Randall said supporting events such as the MAC Field Day was an important endeavour as they allow essential research extension, and bring together farmers, agronomists, industry and researchers to share insights into low rainfall systems farming.
“The MAC field day provides an important opportunity for growers to see research in action, and consider how new practices might fit within their own farming system,” Mr Randall said.
The 2026 program features a range of presentations including topics on herbicide residues, seeding systems, crop disease, varieties, weed management, crop nutrition, water quality and livestock, as well as several projects directly connected with the SA Drought Hub.
This includes an update from the De-risking the Seeding Program, which is investigating approaches to improve the flexibility and resilience of crop establishment.
“The Minnipa Agricultural Centre has a long history of undertaking research that responds directly to the challenges faced by Eyre Peninsula farming businesses,” Mr Randall said.
“For the Hub, supporting the Field Day is also an opportunity to strengthen the connection between drought resilience research and regional extension. We want the knowledge generated through these investments to be discussed, tested and ultimately used by producers.”
SARDI research scientist Amanda Cook said this year’s program would provide practical insights into making best-practice management decisions this season.
“The strength of the MAC Field Day is that growers can see local research in the paddock, speak directly with researchers and discuss how the findings might apply to their own farming systems,” Ms Cook said.
“We are pleased to welcome the SA Drought Hub as an event supporter to help foster drought resilience and preparedness on the Eyre Peninsula.”
The Field Day will commence at 8.30am at the Minnipa Agricultural Centre Shed on Wednesday, 9 September, concluding at 5.30pm. Morning tea and lunch will be provided.
