The SA Drought Hub is encouraging extension practitioners, advisors and industry professionals to register for the Facilitating Learning and Change workshop, now open for March 2026, designed to build practical skills in adult learning, facilitation and driving meaningful change in agriculture.
Delivered by Ag Consulting Co and led by experienced facilitator Jeanette Long, the two-day workshop responds to the growing need for high-quality extension that supports learning, collaboration and adoption in an increasingly complex agricultural environment.
SA Drought Hub Farming Systems Specialist, Rachel May, said strong facilitation skills are critical to helping farmers navigate change and make confident, informed decisions.
“Extension is no longer just about delivering information, it’s about how people learn, share knowledge and apply it in their own context,” Ms May said.
“This workshop focuses on the practical skills needed to create learning environments that genuinely support change.”
Running from 17–18 March 2026 at Maple and Pine, Bundaleer Forest, the workshop will explore the principles of adult learning and how they can be applied to agricultural extension, group facilitation and peer-to-peer learning.
Participants will gain practical tools and insights, including:
- Understanding the role of facilitating learning in extension
- The importance of peer-to-peer learning and shared experience
- Techniques to set groups and events up for success
- How adults learn and take on new information
- Getting the most from subject matter experts and researchers
- Core facilitation skills and processes
- Strategies to effectively facilitate change
